𝘊𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘦𝘥 𝘖𝘤𝘤𝘶𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘚𝘢𝘧𝘦𝘵𝘺 𝘔𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘳 (𝘊𝘖𝘚𝘔®)

is a safety practitioner who accomplishes the supervision and management work of safety activities at the middle manager’s level.
He/she enforces policies and safety procedures and programs, supervises and conducts training for employees and contractors.

He/she also has level safety duties covering workplace assessments to determine risks, potential hazards and controls measures and preparation of emergency response plans.

Application Criteria for COSM®

Candidates must fulfill all criteria set by the Board for this certification

BWCSP sets certification criteria for Certified Occupational Safety Manager (COSM®) through the ISO/IEC 17024 standards for personnel certification.

Education Requirements

have  minimum of a bachelor’s degree in any field or a professional qualification in occupational health and safety recognized by international safety organizations or other approved disciplines by the Board.

Work Experience Requirements

have ten (10) years of safety experience where safety is at least 50% preventative*, professional level with his/her safety duties.

* Preventative:
Your duties are actively involved with provision of day to day risk assessments and control measures to protect people, and prevent incidents/ accidents at work

There are two options for the COSM examination: Proctored Online Exam and Open Book Exam.

Proctored Online Exam

  • Duration: 6 hours
  • Multiple choice questions: 200

Open Book Exam

  • You can do the exam at home or workplace in our system
  • Duration: 24 hours
  • Written questions: 30
