 is a safety practitioner who specializes in a specific area in the safety auditing at workplace. The auditing expertise must be in a definite area such as fire safety, transportation safety, hazardous materials, product safety, health care safety, electrical safety, oil well drilling and well servicing, ladder safety etc.

His or her auditing skills and knowledge can help enterprises to determine compliance with local authority and international expectations in relation to risks, potential hazards and controls measures and preparation of emergency response plans.

Application Criteria for COSA®

Candidates must fulfill all criteria set by the Board for this certification

BWCSP sets certification criteria for Certified Occupational Safety Auditor (COSA®) through the ISO/IEC 17024 standards for personnel certification.

Education Requirements

have  minimum of a bachelor’s degree in any field or a professional qualification in occupational health and safety recognized by international safety organizations or other approved disciplines by the Board.

Work Experience Requirements

have ten (10) years of safety experience where safety auditing is at least 50% preventative*, professional level with his/her safety duties.

* Preventative:
Your duties are actively involved with provision of day to day risk assessments and control measures to protect people, and prevent incidents/ accidents at work

There are two options for the COSA examination: Proctored Online Exam and Open Book Exam.

Proctored Online Exam

Open Book Exam

  • You can do the exam at home or workplace in our system
  • Duration: 24 hours
  • Written questions: 30
